74' COCKPIT MY (1995 - 1999)
I have several CCTV cameras on my 74 MY. The one facing aft showing the cockpit and the sides of the swim platform is NOT presently a reverse image. I have virtually no other visibility aft while underway running from below other than through the camera. I do not really use the camera to dock (as I almost always dock bow in). When departing from a dock (with poles) the camera is helpful. Here is my question. Virtually all car backup cameras depict a reverse image. I have the option to set my aft camera to do the same. However, I am not really sure what the benefit would be since the camera is used primarily for safety to watch over aft line handlers rather than actual maneuvering. For those with similar cameras, what is your preference regarding the aft facing image - true or reverse image? Thanks.

JLR,
I had a similar set up in my 58LRC. From both helms, I couldn't see the stern corners of the boat, so we installed the cameras. From the Pilothouse I was basically still facing forward, but backing up, so the camera was not reversed (as I looked forward at the CCTV screen, aft stb was on the right and aft port was on the left). This world well for me.

Conversely, when backing in from the FB, I had my back to the helm and faced the dock (DD controls). The admiral and I used headsets to let me know when I was about to rip out a piling, dock or swim platform....

Thanks. Sounds like I do not need to get on a ladder and flip the image. Mine are set up like yours were.

I have a my and had a camera that was not reverse angle and didn't like it. I no longer have the camera hooked up.

The easiest way to see the aft corners on a pilothouse Hatt is to take a second to step to the side door and look back. Its quick and effective. No camera necessary.

I had a backup camera (no reverse angle) that also has cameras in the engine rooms. The monitor went out, and I find it far easier to dock without having one, once you have the sight picture.. I only dock from the lower helm with the doors open aft and in the PH. Today was a 19' slip with pilings and 1 finger. Backed in without issue.

Yes even on an ED you can step out and see where you are in relation to the piling, and that will also tell you where the other side is...

As to transom cam, I don't like the reverse view, finding it very confusing. See monitors or flat screens late you switch the image, I tried that a couple of time and much prefer the standard view.

Thanks for all the responses. Much appreciated.
