Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Freaky thing, life. Three wild incidents on the boat this last year, biggest seas I ever been in, run off the road by a semi at 12 mid-night, barely missed.

And what happens...my dear wife, the Admiral, is walking through the house, trips on a large, very thin, entry way rug, loses her balance and hits her head on, of all places, the hinge protruding from the front door jam! Lots of blood, a 5 inch gash, 20 stitches, and scared the bejeesus out of me when I first saw her. Starts 1 inch below her hairline and runs to the back top of her head...yeesh!

Thank god we have a "community emergency care" center around the corner, that patched her up quickly. She's been on Vicadone (sp?) and keeping Neosporin on the cuts and stitches. If she had hit even worse, she might have broken her back, instead of a sprained neck.

Maybe the boat is not so dangerous after all. At least you tend to be on the lookout for trouble.

P.s., I am very relieved she is somewhat ok...as they say, we have been walking beside each other for 48 years (no, not married that long).

Be nice to your Admiral tomorrow!

Very sorry to hear about the accident, but greatly relieved for the two of you that it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Take good care of her...

Our prayers for a speedy recovery. Thank God is wasnt worse. ppat and ws

Back in about 1986, we were cruising the ICW in the 20' wellcraft CC we had when the steering cable broke and suddenly found ourselves heading for the rocks next to a bridge.... I hit reverse and the motor stalled (days of the carb motors). We were not going fast, maybe 6 kts at the time.
But while I was busy trying to start the motor.......
My Admiral put her leg over "so the boat wouldn't be damaged". She tore her tendons and was on crutches for 6 weeks...

Wow that is scary happens fast and at any time.
Well they say it comes in threes so heres too being done and to a good safe summer.

Sorry to hear about the wife's accident, but I'm glad it wasn't any worse. Sounds like you both need to spend more time on that nice, safe boat. If not, a helmet would make the perfect Valentine's Day gift this year. :D

Yhe funny thing id there are not as many places on board to find dangerous corners to bunp into. Most are rounded off.

Goodspeed on the recovery!

JM

Glad to hear she will be OK. I've noticed that boat people rarely get hurt on boats we get everyplace else.
