We have Crusader 454's, we replaced the risers and elbows 2 summers ago, boat was in st lucie river which is sort of fresh if you call the crap out of Okeechobee fresh. anyhow no need to clean them until now since moving to Pt Canaveral and in more salty water. Engines were running a little hot so i think it is time. What solution do you guys recommend, what ratio and how long of a soak also can they be cleaned in place by pulling exhaust hose an putting it in the bucked and hooking a pump in the bucket to circulate throught the riser? or would this damage the gasket and cause leak?

Hey Steve

Does this mean the Boat is done got more Pictures???
I would use Karl's way with Phosphoric and a pump if you do a search he had a detailed way with mixture and all. I did my motors that way seemed to work out great.

Dan, the paint is done, job is below average even for the price but we will have to live with it. the guys installed the rub rail without sealing it so we will have to pull it off again. they also failed to install the rag top on the bridge, windshield, horn, lights and on and on. we did everthing but the rag top on friday then drove back saturday. best part of the job is what we did ouself. the windows are awsome. rear bulkhead still bare wood, have new panels at home. going to stain the wall then varnish. also going to replace the glass with limo glass.

the one thing i am pleased with is the non skid. they painted the deck then sprayed the dry non skid, fine only. then top coated it. by spraying the dry non skid it came out perfectly even and a very good coat of it. my photo files are too large for this site, will have to send them to you direct.

i will look for the thread on the ospho, rather do it in place rather than pulling them off

Steve, I shouldn't think that with only two years and sometime in fresh/brackish water that your risers should need replacing/cleaning already. Prior to the conversion, I changed out risers religiously every 5 years and never had a heating problem and ELECTRA was always in salt water.

George, that is what it thought but she seemed to be running a little hot 185 both engines. pick ups are clean, did not ck strainers yet. will do that first

Steve, that would be a good idea. Last summer, my starboard engine was running a little hot at WOT and my mechanic backflushed the system and we found some crap in the salt water side (I am in a learning mode with these engines). We also checked the impellor and it did have some wear so I replaced it. Did it on the port side a few months later.
