Accessory item painting

I have new alternators, they are not painted.

The old ones were.

I have been repainting the engine and engine parts as necessary with rustoleum, seems to work well enough.

Would you paint a new alternator, or leave it as is?

Agreed.
Once you start painting things, it's another maintenance point.
Also; on an air cooled device, paint keeps heat in.
