Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Where is the air handler/fan moter for the V berth on my 40 DCMY... Have to get Erin out of our room to make room for our newest member of the family in December....

Noel

Under the bed in the v-birth. Roll back the mattress, open the larger of the hatches, and look down. It is actually a lot easier to get to than the one in the master stateroom.

We have the twin bed setup not a queen in the middle. Not sure if this is what you are thinking of...

There are 2 big metal/motor units in the flu bridge with tubing that goes down to the main cabin etc... Is this a possibility?

The unit on the fly bridge is for the salon. I have twin bed also. The front cabin air handler is under the port side bed forword. Steve

LOL. Here is a pic... Any idea how I can start to figure this out... 220v machine...

More Info....

Model # REB-06C

Are there parts for this?

Okay, seems the fan unit is shot, sourcing it now. it is a falco 1/18hp fan unit anybody have an idea?

Noel~

Luneair has been out of business for at least 20 years, so info on that motor may be quite hard to find...

Steve~

Okay, a fan unit that waorks....

I can offer that going by the model # it's a 6000 btu air handler, likely 230 volt because of the "C" at the end of the number.

You could replace the whole air handler with a Cruisair or Marine Air "TurboVap" for around $830 retail...

Steve~

I think that your fan motor is a " FASCO " and not a " FALCO "
Fasco is the largest mfg of fractional horsepower elec motors and if you will just Google " Fasco motors " you will find many retailers.

Just pull the motor, take it to Grainger, and find a replacement that will work.

Ya know...And it's hard to tell in that pic...But is that a piece of carpet runner, or something blocking the air coil intake ?

Are you sure the fan motor is not running, and just sucking that whatever it is onto the coil and blocking air flow ?

Steve~

Steve,

yes they are. However they are (or were Lower) than the intake. Motor hums when it is powered but does not blow.... Fan unit maybe?

The others are right that you should be able to find a replacement motor, but the problem with that is getting the squirel cage off the old motor shaft without bending the squirel cage, which will make it vibrate badly on the new motor...You will also need a extra long set of Allen wrenches to get to the set screw.

If you have, or can get a Grainger account (or know someone who does have one) I would take the whole blower assembly (not the coil) in for a matching replacement...That blower should be about 200 CFM.

Unable to pull the motor from inside the hole in the v-berth. Screws seem to be going the wrong way... Or we cannot see what we need to.

I am going to replace the unit instead. With the recommended air handler. pictures then questions....

Questions:

1. what size caps do i need for the water lines if known?
2. what the heck do i use to clean the copper lines and insulation that does not melt at the flare?
3. Which thermostat is controlling the unit? saloon or aft cabin and can that be changed now?
4. new fan control? for only this one or all 3?
5. The pan the unit is on... can it be reused now?
6. good idea to change the soft duct now as well?

Thanks in advance...

Noel

Bump....

Okay, friend who was doing the order from Fasco ordered the wrong unit... Now I need to get this done. Does Grainger sell the whole unit with the squirrel cage> (I do need to build a ss connector to the coils as well.) (might be worth buying another one for the aft cabin a/c unit too?)

Okay, solution to clean the coils?

3. Which thermostat is controlling the unit? saloon or aft cabin and can that be changed now?...Should be the master stateroom, but you can tell which t-stat makes it hum.
4. new fan control? for only this one or all 3?...Depends on if you go digital now...You won't need a fan speed control (and cant really use one) if you go digital control...The speed control is in the digital control.
5. The pan the unit is on... can it be reused now?...Sure...You are only changing the blower right ?
6. good idea to change the soft duct now as well?...Only needed if it's blowing out soot, or falling apart...But It's your choice and it's cheap at Home Depot.

Thanks in advance...

Noel

This is a question that you will get an answer to when you take the blower to Grainger...They will likely have a blower housing (squirrel cage housing) with squirrel cage, and motor already assembled as a "Blower Assembly" and you should be able to drill a few holes & mount it to your coil with the same sheet metal & blower turntable (blower rotates) that came on the unit originally...

Been too long for me to remember exactly how Luneaire did it back then...But I would try to get the blower assembly off without removing the whole unit...That way you won't need to deal with refrigerant...leave the flares intact.
