  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
37' CONVERTIBLE (1977 - 1982)
My forward ac compressor on my 37c will not come on. I have checked voltages on a few connections at the compressor when in run mode. I have no voltage coming out of the big capacitor. Not sure what the switch? is that line voltage goes directly to. Can anyone give me some ideas of how to troubleshoot this system? It is a blue cruisair 10k unit. 3 knob control. I can get model# if needed. Thanks in advance for the help. Not sure what this item is in the photo. I can jump across it and the compressor sounds like it might be coming on, but does not cool, and sounds funny.

The quickest first test would be a clamp meter on a hot wire going into the compressor. Watch the amperage (current) as the compressor tries to start. What level does it reach and does it stay on or does the current suddenly drop to zero after a few seconds. If it does, does it try to start again on its own?

Is the model number on the compressor still legible?

What is the model number ?

Hi George,
Thanks for the reply. The compressor does not even try to start.

The clamp meter test will test us if the rotor is locked and not turning but the compressor is getting power. It might sit there fairly quiet and then trip off on thermal overload. On the assumption that you already know that there is no power to the compressor, is there 110v/220v at the main line input lugs to the condenser control box?

If there is proper power at the main line input to the control box and no power to the compressor, please supply the model number and I can help you trace the problem.

George
