  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' LRC (1976 - 1981)
I need a recommendation, need to have a AC replaced. Split system 16K BTU for the master stateroom. We will be in Tampa mid February, anyone know a goo AC man? The old unit runs for about 2 hr’s then blows the main breaker.

If it runs ok for a couple hours it's probably hi head pressure caused by a water flow/heat transfer issue. I'd flush the unit With a cleaner to descale it. There are a number of threads on here for the mix of the concoction to do it.

If you do decide to get a guy to look at it, my Baltimore AC guy is in the Fort Meyers area and recently did some work for me. PM me for contact info.

I can recommend a very good A/C guy in St Petersburg. He's traveled to Palmetto and Sarasota for me so I'm sure he'll also work in Tampa.

I was in St Petersburg and needed some AC work and Shawn Grage (Bilge Rat Marine) came and fixed my problem. I would definetly use him again. His number is 727 215 9235.

Curt, RSmith is most likely correct. I had the same thing happen when one of the raw water lines to one of the compressors was clogged. Blow out the line and bingo AC is back on. Another thing that can make it cycle is if the air transfer is bad at the fan or fans. Make sure the filter is clean and the fins are clean and the fan is clean. If its not blowing enough air thru the fins it will cycle.

See you at the LRC Rendezvous in Key West if I can get a plane out of the frozen north.

sounds like a flow problem I would start there before calling the mechanic.i know people that have had a similar problem and used an eco friendly product called barnacle buster. run it through and let it sit for a while and then turn your unit on to flush and see what happens. also check the strainer first.

Ok, I have flushed the system, re-cleaned the air filter and added a hard start capacitor and the AC ran for 1 hour. All three of the other units run without any problems.

Curt,
Well at least you tried the easy stuff. Make sure that even though you flushed the system that you also checked the exit raw water flow from the ill fated compressor. Just take off the exit hose and stick it in a bucket and start it up for a second. Should pump a lot of water.
I had an AC guy for $200 take off the exit hose and point it towards the bilge. He said he thought he saw something come out. Worked great after that except for my $200.

I can't for the life of me remember the guys name, but he runs an AC shop, I think in Tarpon Springs, It's called Cool Breeze, he did some work for me and I was happy with it. If he doesn't service the Tampa area he will know someone good who does.
