AC compressor just stopped...

Hey all, 16K btu compressor for my salon air handler just stopped working. Circuit breakers on, digital controls still work and air blowing out, just not cold. When I inspected the compressor the compressor top was hot, but not running at all. The other one is still humming away. These are the old school origanal green compressors that came with the boat. Boat is a 1978... Any shots in the dark?? Freaking hot in here! Fixing to use the Search feature.. (guess I should have done that first.. oh well...)

Well after pulling the little eletrical box open, the one located on the compressor, to the left hand side forward, there is a large tube looking thing, and attached to it on the right hand side is a smaller tube with two male studs and a reister on top of it. The top of the small tube has blown off it looks like and one of the wires was disconnected. I re-attached the wire, powered the system up and the compressor came back on! Will call my AC guy tomorrow and see what heck is going on...Anybody knows what that tube is?? Hell of a lot cooler in here aready

Starting capacitor. Easy fix. Uses to help start the compressor and avoid popping the breaker

Note that when a compressor is too hot (charge or water flow issue) it will shut down until it cools off. Not the case here but good to keep in mind

Yep that was it. Replaced it and I'm de-scaling the units as I type. Thanks Pascal!
