is there a simple answer how to properly ground the AC and DC systems?

is the AC neutral and the AC ground connected?

what is the AC ground connected to?

how about the DC ground? (neutral battery to block)

is the AC ground and DC ground connected?

when on shore power, is the AC grounded to the shore power?

how about when on generator or inverter?

what is the proper ground for the generator and inverter?

I found this on the Boat US website:

"In your breaker box at home the neutral wires and grounding wires all connect to the same terminal
strip (or bus bar), but on a boat the AC grounding wire is connected to the DC ground. Also connecting the neutral wire to it makes underwater hardware a current-carrying path to ground, potentially lethal for anyone in the water nearby. On a boat the neutral (white) conductor and the grounding (green)
conductor MUST NEVER BE DIRECTLY CONNECTED"

Evidently you don't know about hatteras wiring.

No I don't, what is the right way to wire something?

my mechanic recommended adding GFIs in the ER for the block heaters.

I'm trying to research how to properly wire the ground or green wire.

I am planning on attaching the green wire to the green post in the panel but I have become curious
where the green post is grounded to?

Never scene block heaters with a plug attached to use in an outlet on an OEM installation or a refit, they're always hard wired directly to a breaker or thermostat that's hard wired to a breaker.

AC ground and Neutral should not be connected except at the generator. If using a marine inverter it will connect ground and neutral only when in inverter mode

Otherwise on shore power the ground is connected to the shore power ground

What year Hatteras and what size? Larger models had isolation transformers. Late 70's, early 80's had GFIC breakers that supplied each ships service. Later 80's had GFCI breakers only on breakers servicing lights and plugs. No GFCI plugs were needed as they were already protected. And no neutral came aboard the boat from shore with isolation transformers so the shock hazard did not exist.

If you really want to know how your boat was originally wired, you need the wiring diagrams for that hull number from Hatteras. They came with the boat when new and Hatteras can still supply them to you.
