  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I have been on my 53 my in Hopetown, Bahamas for 5 weeks without seeing another Hatteras motor yacht-old classic or new style .Normally we see Quite a few over our two month stay .Are owners giving the Abacos a miss for a reason or is the recession biting the cruising community Ian w 53 my

Geeze if you were over there during the correct time of year for crying out loud. :p

Normally there are several over there during the Winter. For the last 5 years we have been over there for 6 months and I know several others that merely pass through. ;)

Interesting what is the right time of year.Yesterday and for the past month Hopetown Marina has been nearly full .

I was planning on an abaco cruise this past June but the 6.00 diesel fuel made me change my plans and cruise the keys. Hopefully this coming spring.

if I go at 8 knots I only buy 100 galls in the islands for round trip to palm beach plus a bit of local cruising. You miss a lot if you rush the cruise over the banks

Ian I was kidding sorry if you missed that. Anyway, I suppose it is good to see that the Hopetown Marina is nearly full.
I need to replace our 43 with a 53. If you only need 100 gallons to accomplish local trips on the bank, and return from Hope Town to Palm Beach that's darn good.
I am thinking what you mean is you only need 100 gallons to ensure you can comfortably complete the trip. It's roughly 220 nm from West Palm over to Hope Town. Round trip that would b 450 nm with a little extra thrown in. If I make it 500 nm even at 2nm/g we're talking 250 gallons.

Certainly one can save some cash by filling in the States before departure and pinching it a bit on the return side of the trip.

50 gallons each way??? You need to recheck you're calculator!

I meant 100 gallons on top of full tanks from Palm Beach.Even at $6 a gallon this only puts $200 extra on the fuel bill compared to florida cruise Ian w

Hi Ian. Enjoyed to talking to you at the Abaco Inn. I used to own the We'll See and I remember many summers when Lady Barbara and We'll See were the only 53's around Abaco. Your boat looks great, I gave it a thorough once over at the dock! There will soon be a new We'll See, smaller, maybe a Hatteras, which I hope to have in Abaco next summer. Hank
