  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
Gentlepersons ~

I've been a (15 + year) very happy owner of a 1983 48 MY, and am now looking at a 1990 70 CMY.
Tell me, please, what are the idiosyncrasies of the 70 CMY that would make it markedly different from the 48.
(As in, WFT would I be getting myself into that I wouldn't typically expect?)

My thanks for your sage wisdom, in advance.
(You may now begin to snicker and wax poetic...)

:p

Everything is the same, but there is more of it. Twice as big to clean inside and out.

My biggest beef is the seven split aircons which have issue after issue. I cannot fix the aircon gas / leaks myself.

You can't take the 70' boat into smaller marinas or tight spaces. Handling is not an issue, except reversing into a pen when you'll need help on the lines. No problems coming alongside on a T or mooring ball for one person.

On a 1984 boat you maintain, repair or replace.

I am not the Hatt expert. But I have serviced a few and noticed a few things..

There are Factory yachts
AND conversions by Hatteras of Liqurordale and other companies.

Please ensure this is a factory 70 CMY. Review the HID with Hatteras to make sure they do not have any conversion notes and warranty claims repaired at other yards and follow up on those repairs.

Colregs change when you hit 20 meters.
Expenses (insurance, nav lights and pending your use, black water management, dockage, haul-outs) change quickly also.
