G'day Dave. Just a good chuckle mate. :-)

Being an ex-serviceman, I found it amusing.

Sure saves on the cost of a hand gun. YEE HAW

Rick that was funny. The sad thing is that you guys in the Land Down Under had your guns taken away from you "for your own good". Thank heaven we have the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution giving us the right to keep ours. I suppose you could protect your home and family with a knife of some sort, after all Mick Dundee was pretty proficient with his big knife.

Walter, there is not a single day in my life where I feel the need to have a firearm for protection of my home, my person, my family or my property.

The people over here in the land down under that feel the need for a firearm are VERY few and far between.

Don't get me wrong. They have their place and as I mentioned earlier, I'm ex Navy, very comfortable with weapons and pretty damned good with them actually. I also, simply don't need one.

I do love the image of the box of shells though, funny as!!

BS I've seen Mad Max it's total anarchy down there!

i LOVE this forum you guys make me laugh....

Do you need a permit for that?

Absurd. If you want protection you need live shells.

Just a thought not intended to stir any pot but there was a scholarly treatise published recently tracking the evolution of the perception of the "right to bear arms".

It was generally accepted well into the 90's that the right was NOT an individual right. The NRA actually argued against the submission that the 2nd amendment afforded individual rights.

Of course now the belief that every home should contain at least one firearm is an article of faith.

Oh sure buggy your not stirring are you? Let's see some guy you claim to be a scholar wrote his opinion and now that's fact.
General acceptance by who? Pseudo intellectuals?
Article of faith? What's that?
IMHO every home needs at least 3 fire arms rifle shotgun and pistol. Then some hand to hand weapons incase the fire arms jam or fail. Samurai swords would be a good choice.

It's real simple . You're staying someplace "questionable" with questionable door & window locks. You scatter a few seashells in front of doors and windows. If you're awoken in the middle of the night by some bonehead burglar. You use the 9 or something bigger to take out a kneecap. When you're waiting for the boys after you dial 911. You make him think "Twice " about ever pulling a stupid stunt like this by placing a clip on each testicle. This also works if you are in you're own home minus the seashells and having a good watchdog to inform you of the bonehead.

It could be tough to conceal.

But seriously if Oz didn't have that big deep natural barrier they'd be in just as deep and worse than us.

This isn't stirring the pot at all. Its just simply false. The only people that ever believed it lived in major metropolitan areas. The farmers, ranchers, and other rural folk that built this country all know the truth (and don't mess with them).
