  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht

So, one of the only 'gripes' I have about my hatteras is the cabinet hardware. In rough seas the cabinets just don't stay shut. Multiple times we've had to lash our galley cabinets with everything from rope, wire, electrical tape....etc We even had an entire tray of condiments dump out of one of these upper cabinets and make a holy mess. This upgrade will hopefully fix that and keep from happening again in the future!

These latches are SS and typically used in a floor hatch/cockpit situation. I had used them before for another Center console project and was really impressed with their quality. These are latching and spring loaded, so when properly adjusted the cabinet swings shut and latches. You grab the ring and pull and the cabinet opens. Durability/quality wise they are WAAAYYY overkill for this application so I really shouldn't ever have to worry about them again lol.

Unfortunately I did not take 'before' pics, but we had the brass/gold colored oval knobs with nylon catches. I was only planning on doing this to the 5 problem cabinets, but after looking at it, they look so sharp I'm gonna have to do all the cabinets.

Also, while we were at it picked up a new galley faucet, the old had started to leak

Looks good. I see a lot of different latches while doing surveys and I agree with you that those seem to best the best. John

Those look great, very nautical to boot.

Did you get those form Gemlux Rusty? FYI to anyone considering a purchase, they offer a 30% discount to members of a fishing site I frequent but it changes every so often. Let me know if you're ordering and I'll get you the recent code. I recently bought latches to redo my electronics box

Gorgeous finish work on your wood!

What did you use?

Jon

I would like to know what you used to refinish the wood, too. And nice work on the cabinet latches, those should hold you for a few hundred years.

I haven't touched the wood, other than cleaning/polishing. The wood (through the entire boat) was in that condition when we purchased the boat. Not sure how long ago it was refinished, but I know for a fact the finish pre-dates the Previous owner which puts it at 8-10yrs old minimum.

For maintenance we usually wipe down with a warm damp rag (maybe with a tiny bit of baby shampoo or dawn), then we apply a wax based protectant like woody's wax, have even used fluid film or pledge type product before.

Fluid film, " I put that *&$# on everything"
