  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
The air intake socks I have been sourcing from Deisel Pro are $28/sock and have two seams in each sock. I recently took out four replacement socks and they all separated at the seams, leaving me with 8 pieces of foam. I was able to reconnect the pieces with silicone adhesive caulk and use them.
Does anyone know what type of foam this is and where I could source it? I would like to make my own one piece socks.

Thanks, Larry

I had thought about trying wet vac filters but never went further than my second cocktail that night.
I later removed the DDC cans, saving the hose as an adapter, went to K&N filters on our 12V71TIs.

Upgrade to airseps, the much improved cleanliness of the engine rooms is worth it. That said on my old boat with naturals where the engines were under the salon floor, I used the Baldwin filters with great success. On the hatteras the ER’s are on the main level with glass portholes in the doors so everybody can see them, so I actually care how the engine rooms look on this boat.

Captain Ralph, did you put the K&N directly on the turbo housing? I wanted to do the same but was concerned the temperature might be too high.

I recall my turbo inlet measured around 5 3/8".
I had some MAN filters still in my inventory and used them. They had a 6" ID.
Similar to the K&N RU-3040.
I used the original DDC connect hose as a bushing, some RTV between the two and it all clamped on the turbo as before.

On my friends Detroit, his turbos measured rite at 5" and used the the RU-3020 filters.

I would not worry about heat.

I also use the Racor CCV. No big Walker assembly here.

The DDC silencer can and the Walker assemblies are huge. You would be amazed how much better the engines look with out that stuff. I did not notice any extra noise in the engines without the DDC silencer can.

These are about 8 years old now.

Where does the CCV vacuum hose attach to the filter assembly?

Where does the CCV vacuum hose attach to the filter assembly?
On the inside out of view, I punched a hole in the filter/bushing hose. I could of got the filter closer to the turbo with out doing the CCV line like this.
I remember another HOF member punched his K&N at the flattop for his CCV attachment. His picture was posted around here somewhere early this year.
I wish I would thought of that. Then my filter would be closer to the turbo and really a smaller package.
However, I think my idea here draws more vacuum with the least plumbing inside the the filtered area.

I would not make this assembly up for a proper customer, However, My lil redneck package has worked fine for us, many years now.

I also went K&N filters but I ran the hose from the Racor CCV into the end of the K&N, not the side. It doesn't really matter where you connect.

Ah, it must have been your picture then. Sorry I could not remember where I saw it. I liked it.
My design from years ago, I was trying to get max vacuum. Who knows if it works.
I think I asked for some input a ways ago. I settled on the tube on the side vs the middle. But, what the heck, Something to do in the engine room.

I never considered going into the side of the filter, but that works too. I suppose what ever is easier/shorter route.

Thanks for the response. End of the K &N it is. I punched a hole in the end of the stock can and it seems to work. Should be fine on K& N too.

So, the next question for my notes; What sized turbo inlet did you have and what filter part number did you use?
