Hatteras Model
43' MOTOR YACHT (1984 - 1987)
I have an 8KW 1987 Onan Generator and it needs an impellar change. The raw water pump is horizontal and there is 2 1/2 inch clearance aside of it to get the impellar out. I think I may have to take the whole pump off to get a puller on the impellar, which will be a PITA. Any other ideas out there? :(

Sorry to say - that's the way it's done on my boat. First I remove 2 sections of the sound cover, loosen the two pump bolts, slip off the belt, remove pump and get at the impeller cover. It's not THAT bad a job, but I have yet to find an easier way.

I assume it is the MDKD model. If so you can get the impeller out without too much trouble. It males it easier if you take the solenoid off. Then use a 5/16 on the screws, pry it out and scrape the gasket with a razor blade and reassemble. You need nimble fingers but it is easier than it looks.

Thanks for the info guys. I can get the selenoid off and cover off but my problem is how do I pry the impellar out since I can't use a puller? It is a MDKD model

I use a stubby screwdriver. They usually come out fairly easily.
