Hatteras Model
43' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1978 - 1983)
All,

I will be replacing one of our battery banks prior to this years launch. We have (4) 8D batteries consisting of two banks. Two batteries in each bank. I am trying to figure out the layout of the batteries prior to replacing. Is the port or starboard bank the house bank. I need to replace the starboard bank currently. If I can find out which bank is the starting bank and which is the house bank, should I replace the house bank with deep cycle batteries or with starting batteries. Do 8D's come in a deep cycle version? Sorry for all of the questions. This is the first boat I have owned with 8D's. We own a 1981 43SF with DD's 6V92's twin turbo.

Thanks in advance for your help!

My house side is port. Pull off a battery cable and see if you have power. I would do deep cycle as they take a discharge better. Also the house side is for starting as well on my boat.

Is your boat 24 volt system ? I’m thinking it is if you have two 8D tied together. You can find out how the starters are connected by watching the volt meters while cranking the engines. Where ever the voltage drop is is where the starters are drawing from. Could be both engines are wired to one side or separate sides.

Our boat is set up with a 12v system. The two battery banks are ran in parallel.
