892 raw watter pump leak??

I have a raw watter pump maybee see some evidence of leaking is there a way to check without going in the bilge while it is running. It is not leaking at the dock at idle or eaven if i rev it up a little. Maybee be taking a short trip soon. There is little to no pressure on the pump so can not put watter pressure on it. Should i just take the pump off and rebuild and forget it . 892 in question Tim

raw water, or fresh water? if its the fresh water pump, you can put a pressure test on it with a radiator pressure tester.

This may be obvious, but it depends on if you suspect the leak is on the shaft side of the face plate gasket.

If the latter I would just swap the gasket and buff out the surfaces to get a good seal. If you suspect it is on the shaft seal side, and are planning an extended cruise, then I would just rebuild if it were mine.

Took it for a quick run today and no leak there was a small stream of rust looked mighty suspicious but all turned out good..... Tim

Bill it was the salt watter pump that was questionable. I ran it today and seem to be ok. Tim

Tim, you know that saying "if its too good to be true it probably isnt"? If it leaks after shutdown or their is a rust trail from the shaft area the ceramic shaft disk is probably cracked.
