  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
We overhauled the engines this past winter completely. The post inbound cylinders have had injectors replaced 4 times because of smoking (having) both engines turn 2350+ the boat runs fine. Just a little hase from the port engine every time it is the same two cylinders ejectors firing but when checked with the engine running they have a thumping sound. It has baffled the guys at western branch to the point they are contacting DD for help. They are tired of warenting the things and eating the labor. They have been grate so far.

Ok guys take your best shot here are all the things which have been checked

Turbos
Air box
Fuel pressure
We thought maybe return fuel line was reversed
Air stoppage in filters collapsing
Not snuff air but the Slane air vents are installed in the side Plenty of air
Fuel lines not big snuff so they were replaced maybe one had a blockage
Fuel line from tank replaced
All the fuel system was checked and rechecked no blockage fuel pressure and column good

Western branch has ordered a new head thinking maybe a defective head that is the last straw except for what DD tells them

Feed back guys would be helpful.
I did this from my I pad and spelling and typing is pitiful worse than normal so skip the funning!
Eight injectors in less than 250 hours

I'd suggest a fuel additive to improve lubricity but 250 hours is just too little time.

Are they one one head?

One engine?

When I overhauled my 892's several years ago, I lost about 12 of the injectors in the first three months. Replaced the Reliabuilt (crap) injectors with Interstate McBee injectors and never had another issue. Have you been using Reliabuilt injectors? If so, that, in and of itself, may very well be the issue. By the way, I had to pay the labor to yank out and replace the injectors. Detroit would not cover that.

Tim, have you consulted Jim Oberci and got his opinion? He's probably the most senior DD guy in the area; sure took good care of my '92s.

Has anybody looked at the failed injectors to determine the nature of the failure?

And is there any improvement when the new ones are installed? Reliabilts are know for premature failures often right out of the box. Sounds like they are on top of it and if they are considering replacing the head on thief dime, I'm sure they are exhausting thief options before they start replacing expensive parts for free. As I said earlier on the phone, make sure your fuel manifold is working properly
