  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
Someone had asked about this boat on here. 79k see the ad pop up on my feed every once in a while. Black Marlin. Wonder what’s the deal. Pics don’t look that bad.

The sportfish market in Florida has absolutely tanked over the last year. Boats that were $250k two years ago are $99k now, and boats that were $2m two years ago are $799k now. In a nutshell, I think it's a very expensive hobby and the bulk of the guys in that sport don't seem to feel optimistic about the economy at the moment for one reason or another. The tariffs are a big concern. Everybody I talk to seems to think we're headed off a cliff economically, nobody can really explain why though.
The rot doesn't seem to have spread to boats in general, although it probably will. Sportfishes have just been hit far worse than everything else.

Sounds like the same boat I was warned about. Hate to be vague, but I’m assuming it’s the same boat I was going to look at for a friend.

Talked to the guy who offered to show it to me, but after we talked a bit, he told me it wasn’t worth my time to look.

That was me. I was wondering if she has been storm damaged and put back together. Some of the boats I've been looking at are basket cases. I don't have a problem putting work into something, mechanical and cosmetic, to make it mine. Just dont want to be to far upside-down to start. Thanks for remembering the thread.

It is a hell of a lot of work and $ to get a good boat up to standards. To start upside down it needs to be near or at free by a seller who understands. Bought mine from a great mechanic who had few years of issues. Certainly not his fault but took time and since I hire out much $. Time is the biggest thing to cover everything. $ is second.

SF have definitely been hammered since Covid. The YOLO people wanted to trade their houses for boats/MY to live the high life. SF are too cramped and mission specific for full time live aboards. We’re still not down to 2008 prices yet though.

Looking to put about 4 years of time into renovations, interior, nav electronics, genset, etc. I'd like something that has reliable power for now. Maybe a rebuild on a DD or repowering with new or factory reman down the road. It's gotta have good bones.
