  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Anyone have any info on this model. It was made from 1976 to 1983 and must be a different hull than the regular 70 Motor Yacht because it has an 18’ 7’’ beam from what I can find. Walk around side decks. Sams does not have a model brochure for this model, mainly wanted to know if the hull has any bad characteristics being wider. Thanks John

Looks like the 64MY of the same era but without the aft engine room and v-drives

Very true Sky, has a big full width engine room with both engines and gen sets in the same space

John is this the one we have looked at?

Yes Rusty, but we are not going to buy it unless they say I can have it for free. John

I think the beam is the same on all 18 foot wide boats . I don't see Hatteras building another mold to add a couple inches of beam. Also if the boat has walk around side decks it is not an ED . The ED has no side decks , well a six inch shelf around the outside is all they have....Pat

The mid-70's to early 80's 70MY and extended deck variation did have a 18'7" beam and were completely different hulls than the 18'2" hulls they built from 1980 onward.

I did see that that model was 18’7’’ and the extended deckhouse came from the fact that the pilot house and main deck were moved further forward to allow room for a huge aft deck, like a 53 MY on steroids.
