The last 2 boat rides I noticed white/grey somoke coming from the stbd engine exhaust at idle after running. Nothing noticable at speed only idle. Also on the most recent trip I smelled diesel. The port exhaust is clear.
The engines are Covington 671ti's, 390 hp, 2600 hrs or so. No problem starting or running.
I called one recommended mechanic who has not called back after 2 calls and called a second who has yet to return my call.
Friday I did a little diagnostics on my own with an IR temp gun of the temperature where the exhaust manifold connects to the block. After some warm up, 4 cylinders were at about 160 and 2 (#6 and #3) were at 150. There appeared to be a little film on the water near the exaust by not a visible sheen.
Any suggestions on a Detroit mechanic who works in the Pascagoula MS area capable to address this problem for me?
OR
Is this likely a couple of bad injectors and if so is an injector swap something reasonably within the capability of a boat owner with some mechanical skill/experience. I would prefer to hire someone who I know will do the job correctly, but I don't want to spend more time searching for a mechanic than I would spend doing the job myself.
Thanks
