67’ CPMY ACquestion

I have a brand new to me 1989 67’ CPMY. I took possession today. My question is where are the AC cooling water strainers located? I looked for a brief second before I had to leave for an appointment. It seams I have 2 cooling circuits but I did not see the sea strainers. Any help out there?Thank you in advance

Re: 67’ CPMY ACquestion

Not sure in your boat but mine in in the same motor room where the air conditioners and water pump is. Mine is somewhat hidden behind the port motor. Follow the hoses.

Re: 67’ CPMY ACquestion

On the MYs, Hatteras typically put it the air cons, pumps and strainers in the engine room or in the generator compartment.

Look for the condensers and follow the hoses, to the pumps and the strainers

Re: 67’ CPMY ACquestion

if you follow the hoses and still dont see a strainer it may not have an internal strainer, it may have a south bay strainer on the bottom of the hull

Re: 67’ CPMY ACquestion

Under the deck, just ahead of the port engine room.
After/port of what I think most call the VIP cabin.
Further to port, under that closet you will find one or two head raw water strainers.

Port side mid stateroom in front of the closet. Up against the bulkhead to the engine room. At least on my 89 60MY.

Same on my 1988 67’ CMY.

Re: 67’ CPMY ACquestion

By the way, so envious of you CPMY people. We looked but couldn’t find one acceptable. Line handling has made the advantage of the cockpit even more important to us. That and the need for the stairs or the ladder with the right size fenders to prevent crushing the ladder.

Re: 67’ CPMY ACquestion

Is that the location for both cooling circuits?
Both of the AC pump cocks and strainers, yes.
The pumps them selves are usually under the deck, rite in front of the port engine.
The hoses from these pumps go forward the the cocks and strainers under the mid cabin deck as described above.

If you don't have the print set for your boat, your purchase survey may have the locations for these items.

Found the seacocks and strainers right where you all said they would be. Thanks for your help

Yes. Two Air conditioning seawater strainers are there. Thru-hull is there and hoses go aft through the engine room bulkhead to the AC cooling water pumps that are in the engine room just forward of the port main engine in a “pooka” under the deck. There are 4 strainers in that bilge on my boat. The others are for cooling one of the generators and a seawater supply to a head. We repositioned just the the AC seawater strainers to make them vertical (mounted to the stringers) so strainer baskets would be easier to access and also to keep the pumps primed when cleaning.

Re: 67’ CPMY ACquestion

The strainers on my 67' are in middle stateroom. Two separate sea water pumps are connected to the strainers. They supply sea water to 6 a/c units. Depending on your location, you should check all strainers weekly to determine how the surrounding environment clogs them up with sea weed, trash, and other stuff your neighbors may discard. You may also have exterior strainers that will not allow larger items through your hull and block or clog your intake through hull plumbing. Every month I place a couple of 1" chlorine tablets in the strainers to kill algae buildup in the strainers and plumbing lines.

Guest stateroom by the door. Pumps in ER directly aft.
