Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Seems a delivery captain managed to put the boat she was running ashore at St Augustine yesterday morning.... That's a major "OOPS"

Is that the pic on Facebook? Looks like a 63MY

News said a 65..... I can't post the site from my droid... Besides, when one has a 43' ... A63 or 65..... It's big

Documented name search shows 2005 66.5' Hatteras.

thanks for the thread....

St Aug was a problem a year ago with multiple groundings but i thought i saw dredging mentioned in the LNM earlier this year.

Jack,
On TV this morning they said she was the delivery captain and her daughter was the mate...Only two onboard

Weird- can anyone see the towline? I can't, nor a tow vessel either. What's up with that? Are my eyes just bad or is it out of the picture altogether?

Must be your eyes. I saw it. The tow vessel was pretty far out there, though. Go look again.

I think Jack was directing his question to tintinj8 asking if he/she was the owner or captain of this beached Hatt.

Speaking of that, it's too bad they didn't show a closer shot of the towboat in the video. That must have taken a lot of pull to get that thing back into the water.

What s amazing is not just the power if the tow but how the cleats held up. Even if they spread the loads on multiple cleats, they were still dragging over 100k lbs on sand!

Don't see any rollers under the boat which would have helped reduce friction

Don't try this stunt with other brands!

Hi All,

Jim, had to put on my glasses (which I don't admit to owning since I'm so young and all and have catlike vision) but there is something waaayyyyy out on the horizon in that video that I'm speculating is the tow boat.

I was presuming there must be enough running gear damage that she would require special attention not to flood once refloated. Could it be the shafts and struts survived intact?

Sad to see a Hatteras that looks like a Carver.

Hi All,

You know Bob that same thought crossed my mind as well.

Anyone else ??????

If you look closely they are not towing it by the cleats. They have it strapped on the hull just below the water line. This helps raise the boat off the sand and float quickly. Actually I think they also have some flotation under the props and shafts; look at the sand berm at the rear in the opening frame indicating they dug out under there.

yeah, cant be good for the props. Seems like they would have waited for high tide.

Right. I looked at it full screen and you are right. I wonder if they had anyone in the engine room checking for leaks....

Did they tow it to a haulout yard? I would think so. I hope no one tried to fire it up when it was back afloat.....

It may look like a Carver (and unfortunately it kind of does) but it's still tough like a Hatteras....that hull is probably two or three inches thick on the bottom and they are not cored bottoms.
