  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
I am planning my summer trip, and I am working out fuel costs. It appears that my boat burned approx. 2 gal/hr of fuel (6v53s) per engine at 1500 rpm last summer, with the boat going about 7.5 kts. Do these numbers seem accurate to others on this website with these engines?

Regards

We have a '65 41 DCMY with 6V53s. My fuel burn is as follows:
1.75 nautical mile / gallon @ 13 knots (on plane with lots of trim tab)
0.75 nautical mile / gallon @ 15 knots (on plane with minimal trim tab)
I've never had the patience to run at hull speed long enough to measure the fuel burn.

Having said that, your 1.9 nautical mile / gallon seems reasonable.

For the additional 0.175 nautical mile / gallon I'd kicker her up, get on plane (assuming you have trim tabs), and save some time.

No trim tabs, unfortunately. I have had her up over 15 knots, though. I watched the fuel empty from the tank ALARMINGLY fast at that speed.
