hi,i have found out that the 34 sportfish and the 34 sportcruiser have different measurements when it comes to engine room hieght.so if anyone out there has a 34 sportcruiser with 454's will they fit under the original floor hieght? Thank you Ray

The 454's will easily fit in a 34' trunk cabin.I feel that particular engine is the best gasoline V8 ever put in a boat, especially the older Crusader's with the log type exhaust manifold. In all my years of repairing engines that have suffered hydraulic lock, from an owner trying to get just another year out of a riser,I have never seen the crankshaft of a 454 damaged. It is one rugged engine.

thanks buster

New 454 with efi will not fit.The carbed model will. But who wants carbed stuff now? Looked at doing that with my 64 34 dc.Would have to raise the cabin floor about two inches. We put in the 5.7 efi rebuild the hatches and they push the boat as well if not better than the 454s

Ross, thats a very good cruise speed.whats your fuel burn and wide open speed? thanks Ray

I am a huge fan of electronically controlled engines, especially diesels.Unfortunately the control system, especially things like camshaft position sensors, quit long before the engine is worn out.Do you plan on traveling far offshore or cruising for extended periods? If the answer is yes and you want computer controlled engines,I recommend that you by a code scanner and keep some key sensors onboard.

Thanks Buster i am going for electronically controlled gas engines.long trips close to shore. Thanks Ray

Not sure about burn.No flow meter nor have i topped tanks.Gps speed at 5000 rpms is 38 with half fuel no water.Only have 15 hrs so expect that to go up a bit.

Thanks Ross, when you top out at 38 is that knots or mph? do you have any handling problems at that speed? Thanks Ray

That is mph.Left it there just long enough for gps to read steady.boat didnt want to lay over or anthing like that.
We did a repower on a 36 with efi 454s and at top end it seamed to ride up on the keel and lay over. That was interesting the first time running it up.
