  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' MOTOR YACHT (1980 - 1985)
Hello everyone,

I inherited a 1982 61MY a year and a half ago when my step dad passed away (COVID). He had purchased the boat about two years prior, had the bottom blisters repaired, and installed bow and stern thrusters at the time too. But once off the hard dock the boat that was turn key at that point was instantly turned it into a project boat. All of the carpet below deck was removed as well as the carpet in the salon. And all of the old electronics were removed. It did need about half of the A/C units serviced so he decided to replace them all with MarinAire self contained units. And he had gotten exactly one unit installed when he enlisted my help. Then he passed.

This boat was his dream and I had it in my mind to finish it for him. And now it has become my dream as well. I have since fitted all new electronics (Ethernet and NMEA2000 networks), all of the AC units have been installed (total of 8) and the flooring has been replaced. The boat has new batteries and the engines/gears were serviced. New fan blowers in the engine rooms and heads. I got intimate with The Galley Maid macerator pumps (rebuilt two of them) and rebuilt the heat exchangers on both generators. Several bilge and sump pumps were replaced that must have frozen while the boat was on the hard dock. New sinks in the heads. And all of the mattresses were replaced. I even got the old Sea Brace stabilizers working. Now I know every inch of that boat. It is in absolutely fine shape now and it is a pleasure to pilot.

But I have one issue left. And I have been putting it off because it is a project that is least in my wheelhouse. I'm trying to rebuild the galley up dinette. My step dad had removed the dinette. I think he was wanting a day head in its place. The table itself and the seat cushions survived but none of the framework did. Would these dimensions be on any blueprints? I have the blueprints that came with the boat, but they do not show dimensions or construction plans. I would like to duplicate exactly what the boat came with if possible. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Steve

Sorry for your loss. For a visual you could try yachtworld. Maybe even pop aboard one for sale locally.

Thanks. It was the worst way possible to get a boat. He was the one that raised me. We all hoped he would be with us for many more years. He was such a wonderful man.

Funny you should mention, because that is exactly what I have been doing. :) I haven't seen any for sale locally (TN River, Decatur, AL) but I sure do wish I could find one, pop in as you say, and take pictures/measure.

I have outlines on the bulkheads between the pilot house and salon to start with. But I don't know how the U shaped seating "corners" (for lack of a better word) are constructed.

I have a feeling this is going to be a lot of trial and error.

You should be able to scale the dimensions from the blueprints. The scale is normally near the title or legends block. 1/4:1 is common.

Hi Steve. I have a ‘81 61MY. I would be happy to help you in any way I can with pictures and measurements. I will see if I have the blueprint for this as well.Troy

Here are a couple of photos of our original 61MY galley up dinette. The foam and fabrics have been replaced and there is a replacement table top. All other cabinetry is original.

The dimensions of the cabinetry are 2630mm x 1210mm approx. The height of the base where the cushion sits on is 340mm.

The seat base is far too low resulting in 190mm foam cushions. They are sloppy to sit on and the original design of the seating could be better.

I've been tempted to take the whole lot out and replace with table and chairs arrangement. There are better ways to make use of this area. If you do remake, ensure the table is not oversized (ours is by a couple of inches, meaning you have to sit and slide around the table, and also that the base is normal chair height with a thin cushion foam.

Wow, thanks! My blueprints simply do not show the dinette other than the space it occupies. Maybe I have a page missing?

I snarfed a pic off a sales site and drew the where I need dimensions.

Thanks

Thanks for these measurements !

I have toyed with this as well. Maybe just chairs or even cushioned benches around the original table? Maybe I will give this some more thought.

Thanks
