Miraflores locks, he's northbound- Yep...that's all you can see...cost him 1200 bucks according to the "commentator" who talks about each boat as it goes through

Was wondering where my 60' Hatt was........

It looks like one of the new, low freeboard designs. Definitely not designed by Jack Hargrave. :) I guess for $1,200, the owner is looking to win a tournament in the Pacific to pay for the trip.

Looks small for a 60.

Very interesting pics Mike. Thanks for sharing.

One day I hope to be doing the same thing as you....following the wife around :) She already pays the rent!

Yeah - it works pretty well! I get to decide when I want to go - if it's an interesting place that I want to see, I go; if it isn't, she has to carry her own bags!

I wanted to see the Panama canal ever since I was in the 4th grade and we learned about it - read about a US travel writer, Richard Halliburton, who swam it in 1928 - paid 36 cents toll. I have remembered that ever since and it was cool - the video about the canal at the Miraflores lock visitor center has pictures of him doing that. The locks will have been operating for 100 years in 2014. We made 'em back when we made stuff to last...

"Looks small for a 60."

I didn't actually see the boat at all - just what you see in the pic so I can't really verify it was what the commentator said it was.

"Nice camera"

Thanks - shot film and digital. This was the first time in over 10 years that I took a film camera but decided to "revisit" slides.
