I have a small diesel leak on one of my fuel pumps. Before I call the mechanic I thought I would consult with the brain trust to see what to expect. Is this just a gasket problem, pump rebuild problem or pump replace problem and what should I expect to pay?

Thanks in advance.

It's proubably the seal on the pump usually solved by changing it out with a rebuilt unit. 1.5-2 hours labor and I think about $120 for the pump.

I assume it's not leaking from a fuel fitting. That being the case, it can be exchanged for a rebuild. You could do it yourself if you had the special wrench necessary to get at the inside mounting bolt. It can be done without the wrench but, it's tough.

If you replace pump, note that the Port engine needs a RIGHT hand rotatation fuel pump.

Learned THAT lesson the hard way...

Yes, just swap the pump. Reasonably cheap. As noted, make sure you get the correct rotation! :D

They CAN be rebuilt but its not worth it. These fuel pumps have very close internal tolerances and once they start to leak they likely are out of spec in other ways as well.
