  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
On our 58 YF (1971) the starboard drain seems to go forward a bit before it goes into the sea chest (I assume that is how it drains, I don't see any other drain holes). The port side seems to go straight down into the sea chest. Has anyone worked on these? I think the starboard is plugged up and it hasn't been easy to get to it to clean it out. I haven't seen where it goes from the inside to check there either.

i have not taken mine apart but i have poured bleach in the drain when it got slow and it solved the problem.
my 58yf has 2 drains per side, one in front and one aft of the wing doors. is this factory? the drain goes to a T then one hose to the seachest

On my 1970 53 MY, there are two drains on each side of the wing doors. The hoses merge into a Y and can be accessed on the starboard side inside the medicine cabinet, on the port side, the hoses are in the hanging closet

I helped a guy with a 60MY unclog his drains with compressed air. We tried everything else including a coat hanger from the thru hull up but no luck. The air down from the top did the trick.

Thanks for the suggestions, there is only one drain per side so will check for the hoses.

When my drains get bogged down I find that just blasting some water from the hose in there tends to do the job.

Ditto on the blast from the water hose, however I did the blast from the thru hull at the water line and forced the water up. Once I removed the hose the blog came down and stuck just before it was to come out. I used one of those barbed plastic drain cleaner to reach up and pull it down. Hope this helps.
