Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Hello guys..... Recently noticed this posting and she looks very clean via the pictures and listing information. Owner states that they need to liquidate as they now have two boats...etc... She also has the optional interior that was offered in 1980. My concern (I haven't contacted the broker yet fyi)...the price is significantly lower than most 58's in that area on the market. Am I missing something??? Do any of you know anything about this vessel? It doesn't have a name on it (poss. the owner transferred the name to the new boat?), I'll try to get it's name and add it to the thread for reference.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated....

I can't offer anything but it's it nice looking boat for the money. I didn't know they made a 58 YF with a galley up.

They didnt. It's a 58 cockpit motor yacht. Same but different.

That's a 58CPMY. The difference between a 58YF and a 58CPMY is that the CPMY does not have the walk around side decks. That is one thing I really dislike about my 58MY. It makes it nearly impossible to wash the side and windows. I do it, but it takes a whole lot of care not to fall in the water and I only have one hand to work with once I'm out there since I have to use one hand to hold onto the railing. There is only about 5" to 6" of ledge out there to stand on, so you're not going out there with a buck and a brush anyway. Once you get far enough to the back where the aft deck is, there is no little ledge to stand on.

Something to consider when you're shopping...I didn't know how much that would bother me until after I owned her and began taking care of her. It's the one major drawback on these 58' motoryachts.

A 53ED with a cockpit added on. They did that with a variety of models back in the day.

When I was looking at "retirement boats" I really liked the idea of side decks. I figured it may not be to big a deal now but as I get older I figured it was a good safety feature and like was mentioned easier for cleaning. The 53 my seamed like a good fit. Although I do love the extra room and water access of the cpmy.

I've noticed that boat too. Other than somebody goofing around with the forward stateroom and "customizing" the galley, she looks pretty good.

It's interesting that Hatteras built the 58 CMY several years before they introduced the 53 ED. The 58
cpm is as stated on an earlier post essentially a 53 ED with a cockpit but generally boat companies
start with the MY and later decide to add a cockpit. When that model was introduced about 35+ years
ago I salivated for it. Now I wish I had a much smaller boat than my 48. The 58 CMY was (and is) a very
spacious vessel. A good friend had one back in the 80's when I lived in Panama City Beach (Bay Point)
and if memory serves me, it had a pair of 8-92's and loved to drink diesel. Of course at the time fuel was
much less than today and wasn't much of a factor. I ran it quite a bit and usually cruised around 16Knots.
Very comfortable boat. As Angela said, the main drawback is the lack of walk around decks which makes
it a PITA to clean the sides and windows, but all that interior space had to come from somewhere.

I agree on the value of wide side decks (we used to call these cat walks) on a flush deck MY. Gayle and I (especially the latter) need these to be secure operating and docking/anchoring the 48 MY.

The boat used to be in Knoxville. Belonged to Lawrence and Kim. Lawrence bought the boat on a mechanics lien, prior to that, it had been a repo offered by Marina Mile. Lawrence sold it about a year ago and it went back to Florida. Lawrence was in the floor refinishing business and put in the faux teak and holly engineered flooring, and polyurethaned the Aframosa. It had some damage on the side walkway the he repaired. I think Lawrence sold it in the 140-150k range and I'm surprised it's back up for sale so quickly. Boats prior name was Timeless.

Thank you very much for the information! Do you by chance have contact information for Lawrence that you are willing to share? If not, would you be willing to provide him my contact information? I would love to discuss the boat with him. You can PM with your response. Again thank you.

Angela, if you had to do it all over again, would you give up the extra room in the salon for walk around side decks?

Yes. The extra room in the salon is just more empty floor space in the middle where we walk through the salon.

The downfall, since I'm galley up, is that my galley would more compact and I wouldn't like that. The best solution is to go for the Series II which is a wider beam vessel, or my favorite, a 58' or 65' Long Range Cruiser. Both of those solutions, however, involve significantly more cash, especially 10 years when I bought my Hatt; not quite so much today.

Setting aside the cost, to bad that isn't possible, in additional to the attributes Angela pointes out the machinery space is great as in the Rib storage.

The 58 in question has been popping up on my YW searches as well. The price is good - too good. That raises the yellow flag in my mind.

I - and others here - would be very interested in learning what the real deal is.

OP, good luck in your due diligence and let us know what you find.

If we have time, I may stop by and look at that one. Reports will be $50. :D

She is sold.
