Gentlemen,
I met a Hatt owner w/ a 1976 58' yacht fish based in Clearwater Fl.
who is getting on in years and ready to part with his boat. He's in his mid 80's
and had the boat for a long time.I told him that I would mention it on the forum, since he was unaware of such a technology.

Tell your buddy to join this forum and list his boat for sale on here. It's obvious from previous conversations many people admire the 58YF and would probably be interes..... wait a minute, a 58YF in Clearwater?

You reckon that thing has a teak swim platform? Which line should I hand first to a dockhand? :confused:

Anybody have the phone number for Notices to Mariners to see if the hole I made in that sandbar has filled back in? :cool:

I reckon I'll poke my head into the ER's every thirty minutes just to double my chances of seeing live and in person an oil line blow! :D

Oh yeah, Pascal, will you come with me or point out everything I did wrong AFTER I admit having made an error? :rolleyes:
 
Is the boat's name "Shark IV"? Ed and I thoroughly inspected that one before moving on to the 58MY in Miami which we ultimately bought last year.

The boat's name is DAD'S DREAM and it's been in Clearwater
for 17 years. He says that he is the 2nd owner. His name is Ralph Porter.

LOL I thought it was that you can't teach a pig to sing because it just can't be done and only annoys the pig. Unless, of course, the pig can speak French and in turn it sings French melodies which will annoy the teacher for having taught the pig to sing in the first place.

I wonder if the pig would become an expert vocalist within four years of being taught to sing and tell other pigs how to sing as well?

Gosh, how did we get off on the subject of pigs by talking about a 58YF for sale? :confused:

That boat has never been to Soddy Daisy in its life!

It did find its way from Cincinnati, OH to New Port Richey, FL about 3 years ago where some uppity inexperienced yacht club guy bought it and took it on a trip south along with his elderly gentleman friend. Heck this was only about that guy's 15-16th twin engine boat and the second Hatteras the 48 year old guy ever owned since having owned his first boat at age 12.

The poor yacht club guy forgot to call the Sanbar Relocation Program to find out a sandbar he had negotiated for the past 18 years had been moved to a new location outside the flashing marker lights.

After that, he found out the gauges on the tanks were not working and that the PO had lost track of how much fuel was in the boat. This after having to move the boat out before the tide left only to find the marina recommended by the PO was closed. Poor guy normally carried lots of spare filters but never made it to the destination where he planned to buy more the next day.

On top of that he had to be towed into a marina who took over 24 hours to come up with an oil line to replace one which had a crack in it as the owner discovered when he replaced the fuel filters on the new boat. Good thing he had at least enough experience to get a 58 foot yacht back home while running on only one engine. Many people could not have done that in the close quarters he was forced to do it in, but most have never tried to.

Poor guy was so inexperienced that he handed a teenage dock worker a line and had the loop end around the cleat just forward of the center cleat to hold the boat in a strong current while his injured buddy got off to head to the airport and his doctor back home. The big dummy wasn't paying attention to the little girl who threw his bow line off without his knowledge until he saw his boat headed out in the current while helplessly watching the boat come backward into a piling which damaged the swimg platform on his new boat. The guy actually had the nerve to blame it on the dockworkers. Can you imagine that?

Prior to the little girl throwing off his line unannounced, he was in the rear of the boat where another teenage boy had made 147 loops around a cleat on the dock. He knew he had only the port engine to bring the boat off the dock while he was tied to the port side. He was explaining to the teenager how he needed another line to spring the boat into the current and get it away from the dock while running on the port engine only while needing to go starboard. Oh yeah, the port engine was not running at the time as the guy was checking the vitals on it while his buddy was getting his things together.

Most people were surprised that the guy told the whole world about his mishaps and how timing is everything when it comes to stocking a boat with the many things it is likely to need some day. He even laughed at his own mistakes and misfortune. It sure was helpful to have an expert tell him everything he did wrong because it confirmed most everything he had already pointed out himself.

Nah, that boat never has been in Soddy Daisy, but I hear the guy wanted to take it there with his family some day, but that may never happen either. If I were that guy, I'd probably get out of boating altogether and I dang sure wouldn't volunteer to share my problems with anyone on this forum.

Other than that, I really don't know that much about that boat.
 
One of the bruthas, Jimmy Douglass ( now deceased ) use to smoke dope at work in the welding booth. He'd say," turn on that old suction THANG !! " -- in reference to the fume hood over the bench. :D

I have been travelling the past couple of days and missed the bantering. I logged on a few minutes ago and am still in stitches with the whole "pig" theme and Dr. Albert playing his usual genius with words. I have to say that you guys that get into the banter really do add a huge amount (in my humble opinion) to this site. There is no question but that I would pay for the access as long as the group of you guys in this "pig" theme agree to bring your humour along with you. I now know that pigs can fly because Albert says so.

Thanks for the clarification on the pig thing, but why do you have to be so dang critical all the time? :mad: Either way you state it, pigs are for barbeque! :cool:
 
how funny to see this here. This boat used to be listed with marine max, as of this past fall/winter. I assumed it had sold since it was taken off yachtworld but I guess not. When I was REALLY shopping for a 58 YF this one jumped out at me. My folks have a place just south of there so I had my dad go check it out for me. He had been with me when I looked at a few others and while he doesn't know big boats (not that I do either!!), he got to go see several other examples, some good...some real bad. He told me this was by far the best one he had looked at. As I recall...rebuilt engines, 3rd helm station at the aft deck, teak in good condition (I think), and very clean and looking sharp. He told me I needed to come see it as he was sure it would be the one I would want to move on. As I recall the only thing was that the interior needed to be totally updated but supposedly the interior teak wood was in excellent shape and looked perfect (my dad said it had the best interior wood quality of all the hatts he had seen with me which was 3 others i think). Unfortunately at that time we started heading a different direction so I never made it down there to see it.

How much is he asking for it now?

I REALLY should not come to this forum! It is dangerous. I might end up like Freebird and own several large boats. My signature would have to read:

Actually...it could be pretty nice to own all three of those boats...one on Lake Allatoona for a day/evening "runabout", the silverton on Lake Lanier for a "weekend cabin," and the hatt for my long distance cruising needs.....

Why was I not born a billionaires son?? Can we take up a collection fund so that I can go ahead and get the hatteras? Our anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks...maybe I should just kind of buy the hatt and kind of spring it on my wife as a surprise gift. :D :D :D


Anyway...if someone is looking for a 58 YF I have not seen this one with my own eyes but it is supposed in very good repair.
