55’ sport fish water in fuel

Apparently while my boat was in the boatyard in Puerto Vallarta for 3 months enough water from rain I think went in the fuel cap. There was enough water in the genset Racors to make it stop running. I ran the mains for about an hour before I noticed the water in main engine Racors and went back to the dock. I am rebuilding the injector pump on the genset now but how do I get the water out of the tank. There is no polishing service n Puerto Vallarta.

If there’s a travel lift where the boat is kept see if you can get the yard to hang it in the slings overnight at an angle to where the water will settle under the fuel pickup or the tank sender and pump the water out until you hit solid fuel.

Open the gauge sender, stick a piece of copper pipe connected to a flexible hose and an electric pump... suck the water out in a bucket. When most of it is out get a racor assembly, and run the fuel thru returning it to the tank to get the last of the water

Make sure the boat sits at an angle that will allow the water to accumulate under the pick up.

The boat is in the marina slip…both tanks are full so it is sitting low in the water. Maybe add some weight to the stern to get the transom as low as possible?

Re: 55’ sport fish water in fuel

It depends on where the pick ups and the senders are. Couple of years ago I had old fuel drained out of my 53 My and the tanks cleaned in the yard during repower. I didnt realize the boat was blocked slightly bow up. As a result the forward tank was perfectly cleaned as the pick up were aft. The aft tank on the other hand with the pickup forward was left with dirty fuel. Once I transfered and filter the fuel from aft to forward as described earlier, the boat was bow down enough for the crap to move forward in the aft tank.

Can you get some plastic 55 gallon drums? You could get a couple of those and fill them with water. You need to let it sit a while to get the water past the baffles
