  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I need to repair or remake the cabinet on the aft deck of a 1972 53MY- the one with the black formica top/sink/icemaker.
Does anyone know what type of plywood was used, afromasia?? The local hardwood store says its stained?

Thanks, LarryIMG_0801.webp

The PO painted all sides and stained and varnished the trim. I love the look of wood but I’d say this looks great.

That year was tiger teak, aka Mozambique teak. Hatteras switched from that to the Afromosia in 1979.

That's what I believe is referred to as the Hereshoff look. White panels with varnished wood accents. It's a look I'm fond of too. While I'm a big fan of wood in general, in some cases it can make onboard spaces feel cramped. Since a lot of the veneer in my boat is shot I may be headed in that direction.
