That mirrored overhead in the engine spaces is a little different--is that for spotting leaks, etc.?

polished stainless panels, you can get them here:

Seen them used by hotrodders to dress things up and in this case it looks like it may have some utility seeing what you are doing in the reflection...

oh oh... winter project?

Solid surfaces simply drive noise.

It looks expensive until you think about what a new equivalent would cost. Then it starts to look like a rather nice deal, assuming it all surveys out smoothly.

It's still a 1989 boat and the refit work is now 10 years old. For very close to the asking price or maybe another 25K-50K, you can buy an early '00s Hatteras 50C with 3406 Cats that would perform the same and is very similar in size. Much more modern boat and significantly higher demand. For the same price you can find one with 3412 Cats and easily cruise in the low/mid 30kt range and top out near 40kts.

Doc, when you look at a Packard do you compare it to a new equivalent? Or others that have created a current market value. A rising tide may raise all ships, but pull the plug and they all will sit on the bottom, good and bad!

That is a nice 52C and I agree with saltshaker the major updates are 10 years old and 2000 and later 50C is worth a comparison with Cat power along with other systems including frameless windows and improved fiberglass layup. The interior layout is very similar on both. The 52 with those Mans has about the same fuel burn at 25 kts as my 50C with 3412E Cats. The 3406E Cats are probably ok in the 50C but guessing they would have to be run harder at 25 kts and with the similar fuel burn. The maintenance on those Mans will be a bit more than the Cats. Over time the difference in total maintenance might even out the additional cost of the 50. I'm partial because of owning a 50, but would have no problem owning a 52 like this one. It looks exceptional.

I don't disagree, but I should point out that I didn't state that it was the best deal out there, only that I thought in relation to a new boat it was a good deal. I would rather have the two boats you mentioned, too, assuming I was going to spend that kind of money, which would buy half a Packard Twelve- but not any Packard Twelve I could afford. It would half buy the one I drove today, though. LOL
