  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Both of my voltmeters went within months of each other. Sam’s is the only source I was able to find, but apparently there was a production error by their supplier. While the voltage reads correctly when power on, the needle doesn’t move when off.

The only other 50 voltmeters I found were square panel meters. The four pegs used to hold the meter to the panel are easily removed and then the gauge fits into the original hole. I modified and insulated the old gauge bracket and connected it to the negative terminal.

The gauges are on Amazon from $9-14, I paid $20 from an electronics outlet. Sam’s is working on a replacement gauge.

I replaced the resistor and diode and then it would peg to 50 amps. I took it to a shop but they wouldn’t work n it.

I also got a 12 volt voltmeter and replaced the resistor- didn’t work.

Volt meter pegging 50 Amps. Sorry. Could not resist.

Why do we need a 50 volt ammeter? Isn't this a 32volt system, or did you step up to 48?

I found this on eBay. Looked it up under Hatteras yacht volt meter

At my age I’m hoping that’s a new posting.

I'm still buying up the VDO 40v gauges, new, on e-bay.
Somebody has not been shopping...

When battery charger or alternator on, voltage reads 34.8 hence a 50 volt (not amps) scale

Ok, we must have a different eBay in Texas.

Copy / paste this in the top e-bay line;
hatteras volt meter
3 available now, two matching.

Yep, adding Texas did it.

One looks a little rough- not sure any would last long enough to remove voltmeters from the to do list.

Probably hold out for new meters and go with the squares until then.

I just had Lauderdale Speedometer and Compass repair my gauge. They tried a fix that didn’t work then just replaced the guts all for $125. Great customer service!

I have some other gauges in a box somewhere. I'll track them down and send in a pic.

That's why I was asking. There's a difference between nominal voltage and what range may be on a gauge. If you were looking for a voltmeter for a 12V system, you wouldn't look for a 16V gauge.
Well, Er, Ah ,, Oh,, Yes.
If you had a 12 V system, that charges to 14 volts, Yes; I'd want a 16v meter.
I'm sure what you meant was a 12v system would not want a 26 or 30 volt meter.

I love it when pros call meters gages, and vicy vercy ;-)) ISSPRO still came to the rescue. Kinda like How many horses is that starter engine on the main motor? Well maybe a gas pony starter on a cat...

I bought mine from Sams. They had them made to replicate the old Hatteras gauges. Not an exact match to the original but close
