Needs one engine rebuilt...... is $85K still a good deal?

$10K in scrap aluminum plus the working engine. you do the math.

I did.... not getting to 55K.

At 80K-100K to rebuild one of those MANs the deal is less attractive. I'm guessing the rest of the boat isn't so great seeing how they posted a link to a nice one instead of using actual photos. Didn't War Eagle sell around 125K? That was a beautiful boat but both MTUs needed majors. Huge boat with a massive cockpit. Previous owner was thinking of putting a pair of C32 Cats in her. A pair of 2600HP MTU 16V2000s would have made that boat fly and the ER had plenty of room for them. Would love to know what happened to her.

Gulf Coast Yacht Group. AKA "Gulf Coast Hatteras" has a nice clean 70 for sale with 1850hp Deutz Diesels for $995. I believe they said it's a 24/25 knot cruise and 28 knots WOT. They are big massive boats. I'd like to know how one would run with 2600HP MTU's. It would be a big fast shallow draft ride. That's for sure. As cool as the boats look, the aluminum part kind of bothers me a little. Glass just seems simpler. I always liked the Strikers though. I delivered a few back in the day for Herb Phillips. Also one of my favorite movies of all time, "Caddy Shack" had a brand new 60 Striker in it. Herbs son I was told ran it for the movie. Best line,,, " Hey Smails, my dinghy is bigger then your whole boat" or " Hey! You scratched my anchor".

Best line is "Move over Swanson. I'm driving!"

At least that's the one we use most often.

"20 bucks says the Smales kid picks his nose...."

Caddy Shack is an endless source of great lines!

Sorry for the thread hijack I could not resist

I had a Striker. I'd much rather have a Hatteras. You don't appreciate how easy it is to repair and maintain a fiberglass boat until you own an aluminum one.

Of course, if TIG welding and AwlGrip painting are two of your better skills, go for it.

A set of 16v2000's @2600hp is around $1.3 mil these days.......

Oh, that's all. lol. It's amazing the cost of things.

In comparison a set of Cat C32a's @1800hp are about $550k-600k. For anyone looking to repower with engines in the 1000hp range Cat is selling their new C12.9's for around $165k a pair until October, less for the 835hp version. These engines are really Iveco's with some Cat design work, Cat's way to comply with EPA tier 3 regs. For that you get 2 turbos plus a super charger on a 6 cylinder engine.

How are Iveco engines? Do they hold up as well as Cat or Cummins?

Cat says they're good to go but i'm not exactly sure how many are actually on the water. Only thing I've heard is the set put in the Delta Dawn (57' Island Boatworks) have been very reliable after some initial turbo swapouts. My concerns would be C18 has the same hp with 1098 cu in and C12.9 only has 787 cu in; and the sequential turbos and supercharger. Better have some good metallurgy.

Did they keep the name?
