  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
1 is stainless steel chain and and windless chain the same? My windless is rusting with galvanized chain so i purchased a short 10 foot pice of stainless put the two together. The first 10 feet act funny, the chains measure the same. I can not help but to belive there is a diffrence although they measure the same almost. Am I missing somthing??? Looks like the stainless is not uniform!

2. Where is a good sorce for 24 volt light bulbed they are driving me crazy..

3The dam ice maker is over flowing(with watter) into the ice bucket and freezing all the ice together. Plus the arm will not go all the way down and shuts the thing off.(because of freezing watter running down the side) It is a u line about ready to shoot it. I belive it is the actual maker and needs adjusting but after about 15 tries nothing changes. What about a little suggestions here.

4 Adding one more any one with a 52c out there did they come with y valves to shoot raw waste overboard i can not find one. Did hats come with them or is it a added item after purchasr.

5 Ac compressor when it starts it makes a nocking soud for about 3 to 6 seckonts is it dying??

fyi the new i phones will NOT float!!!!! but they do store all contacts in a cloud which are retractable Tim

#3- Uline ice maker. I had a similar problem with a split line inside of the ice make a couple of years back. You can order a replacement ice maker (the whole unit inside the freezer) for about $200. Takes 15 minutes to flip out and reinstall. Get the series number and take it to the local appliance shop that sells Uline.

Tim -- for the uline replacement call BOW in Ft Lauderdale 800 844 4292 they will have and ship what you need. The Y valve on mine is in the engine room (in front of engine) port side next to the bilge pump. Should be able to follow the hoses from vaccume pump to the Y.

#3. My Ice maker is doing the same thing. The coating in the trays are peeling and wont release the frozen ice. It cycles anyway and pours more water over the "full" ice tray, then runs over into the bucket making a big huge solid ice block. The good news, you can then put the ice block into a ice chest and last a few days or sell block ice from the back of your boat. I didnt want to spend the 2 hundred bucks and bought a small portable emmerson ice maker that makes tons of ice for $120 at target.

I had the same problem with my U-Line many months ago. I defrosted it and started all over, but made sure the door was closed tight. No problems since. Before you buy parts, make sure you're not allowing air to get into the compartment.

Mine does not have a true Y valve. In front of the port motor is a manifold contraption with a standard through hull valve at the bottom. Shut that off and no go overboard. I would like an overboard pump out macerator but I just have not had the time to figure out an install.

There are waterproof cases for the iPhone that float...

As long as your shooting crap over the side I'd do something with the indeck fishbox. The 52's Ive fished on have no drain in the box and its a PITA to get out and clean.

Hello Spellbound thanks and thanks to all who are answering the call for help what a sight to have so many who will help. I did invest in a apple floating case uh still spending on that mistake.
I am almost through rebuilding we are doing the non skid this week and it will wind up the work for a while. Have repaced the carpet curtons(isenglass) painted and all new electronics, bottom paint and new wheels or new to me gotta take a breath for a while.

Tim: Out of curiosity, what size / type wheels did you end up going with? Did you have them balanced before install? Brett

Mine has two macerator pumps port and starbord. The pumps pump the stuff overboard after you turn the valve in front of the engines.
the comtrol switche are in the port storage hole just as you start bown the stairs. Still looking a y valve strange i belive i have two holding tanks if mot why do i have two pumps. I first thought i did not have a forward fuel tank but i do and it holds a full 300 gal. Hatteras says it came that way

You are correct!! The thing is impossible for one guy to move around and not drag it. Of course scratching up every thing. My 45 had the same problem. I am ahead of you this time already done. The tuff part was findina a 24 volt pump that was not made of gold. I pulled the 24 volts from the watter maker and put a switch beside the transum door works very good.
cured that problem Tim

I got the wheels from a local dealer i will tell you the size in about three days it is on the boat . Yes the big rock prop shop computor balanced them.
They are smooth smoooooooth much smoother than the three bladed ones .
One thing to add when we pulled off the three bladed ones there was a hole drilled in the blades actually there was three holes about 3/16 or so. Bet you can not guess why it was news to me it cures calviation. The prop people told me it was a old cure. They said there were no burn marks on the blades news to me.Maybee some other guys can explain... The new ones do not have holes. The old props were 97 denner for what that means i do not know. As Forest Gump said all i got to say about that Tim

Hi All,

Not that it's directly related to the where and how of the macerator(s) but we decided, based on the hassle of the macerator system, the additional potential for stinky failures, the cost of the pumps, the jammed Y's and the 3 mile limit, to remove the entire macerator mess on our 48YF. NO regrets.

I must point out that this possibly drastic approach was taken after much deliberation and confidence that it fit into our cruising style ie from harbor to harbor with pump outs and an occasional few days on a ball/hook somewhere secluded.

Obviously this doesn't work for a lot of folks.

We look at it the same way. No macerator. Y-valve will allow direct discharge is we ever get to the Islands, but statewise, we liveaboard much of the time and need to pump at three week intervals. Series I 48MY, 65 gal holding tank.

Hi All,

BobK,

We actually took a little bit more drastic approach ie no "Y" valve, no ability to discharge overboard. We have 2 holding tanks totalling appx 75 gallons (very similar in total volume to yours).

The chain has to be sized to fit the gypsy then it must be identical for every link to pass over the gypsy smoothly, costs more than regular chain.

That fish box is poorly located and designed. The biggest issue for me was lack of insulation. I would easily burn through 400 pounds of ice in 24 hours. I insulated with 3 3/4 layers(2 1/4 inches) of RMax board glued together with waterproof contact cement. That made all the difference in the world. It has to be designed to be disassembled. I need to put a light layer of glass on the pieces for durability and install springs/clips to hold it in place.

I have had nothing but bad luck with macerators and fish boxes. Because of how close the bottom of the box is to the waterline, I decided let it drain into the bilge(there is a bilge pump directly underneath). When you wash it, the soap takes care of any bilge stink. This worked well in my Contender but, if stink becomes a problem, I will have to plumb a thru hull drain just above the water line.

Maybe one is just a fully installed backup.?.? With the forward fuel, 2 water tanks and the holding tank, there is not much room left for anything of size.
