  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' YACHT FISHERMAN (1972 - 1975)
The spec sheet says 80 gallon tank and I have located it in the keel between the engines. My newly arrived Owners Manual makes no mention of a holding tank, describing both heads as overboard discharge only. There seems to be a rather complex Sealand pump and seacock assembly aft of the stbd engine, I assume to empty the tank overboard (not that I am very likely to ever do that). My question is, where is the switch for that pump-out pump? Also where is the holding tank vent?

Thank you,

Paul

Hi All,

Paul,

We have 2 waste holding tanks on my 48YF. The setup seems to be factory configured. Originally it used a macerator to pump the waste overboard. Since that is now not allowed by the coast guard (big fine) we just had it removed.

One is behind the port engine, the other is forward.......you know I can't remember where exactly.....

Let me take a look and I'll post more on the locations etc

My 1972 48YF came equipped with an 80 gallon holding tank in the bilge forward of the centerline fuel tank, aft of the centerline water tank, but it was not factory plumbed. Hatteras told me it was installed, but not plumbed, in anticipation of upcoming EPA rules. I did the plumbing myself.

Macerators are allowed, cannot pump put within the 3 mile limit, also, the switch must be behind a locked door, or use a key operated switch, the key to be kept in the Captains cabin.

HGi All,

Canuck,

If you have a thru-hull valve shutoff I believe it has to be secured closed as well.....I could be mistaken.

Yes but there is not on the discharge of the macerator as the pump cannot technically pass sewage unless running.

That is exactly what I have Rob. I just have not found any switch for the overboard macerator pump yet!
