  1. OWNER - I own a different brand
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
We are looking for our next boat(currently have a Uniflite 42DC), and have zeroed in on the 48MY. We want stabilizers, which limits our choices. I also prefer the 6-71N over the 6V-92TA, which limits things even further. Any ideas on the ratio of these boats produced with these 2 engine choices? I did look at a 48MY with the 6-71N and stabilizers, but it was pretty rough and needs quite a bit of work and money to bring it up to an acceptable condition. So the question is, am I trying to find a unicorn? On a somewhat related topic, any ideas on a ballpark figure to in-frame a 6-71N?

This is the 1981-84 48? A 1999 copy of the powerboat guide states that the 671N was the standard engine with the turbo 6v optional. Also stated is a description of the hull as 'dual mode' meaning its pretty much designed for trawler speeds. Maybe knowledgeable buyers recognized loading up that hull with extra hp was a waste? Only looking at the used boat listing will tell at this point I'd think. Hard to believe that design was available with four staterooms! Good luck with your search.

Yes, the Series 1. Currently 4 for sale, 3 have the bigger engines. That is the only data I have to go by at this point. I am happy with a 9-10 knot cruising speed. 12 knots is the official cruising speed of the 48MY with the smaller engines.

If you are wanting to cruise at 10 kts and will not miss ANY real fast speeds, the 6-71 will be the best option.
Cheaper to operate.
Cheaper to maintain.
Cheaper parts.
Maybe more engine room.
More forgiving.
IMO; For many positive reasons, longer life.

IMO; in a few more years I feel will be the desired option when re-sale time arrives.
