Think small for a Hatteras transmission. My power is DD 453N with a BW Velvet Drive 72C and 2.92 reduction gear. All works just fine thankfully, but I would like to change their shifting characteristics, if that can be done. First, due the limited engine power, I keep the idle RPM up around 750 RPM. But at this RPM the shifting is very abrupt. Sounds like an old outboard going into gear. Is there any way to smooth out the transition into gear. Have thought about using the neutral interlock to engage the engine shutdown solenoid for a half of second or so to take power off the time of actual engagement. Have also thought of using a pressure bypass solenoid to momentarily drop the transmission oil pressure during engagement. Anyone know of a way to smooth out the shifting process other than adjusting the engine idle RPM lower using the governor, which I do not want to do?
