Hatteras Model
58' MOTOR YACHT-Series II (1985 - 1987)
I have become interested in a 48 Cockpit MY - the later 90's vintage. Was wondering if anyone on the Forum could give me some opinions, comments or prevailing problems with that model. The negatives I have noticed thus far are very deep (5'+draft) for a 48' boat and It's a bit tall and boxy in the aft deck area. The cocpit is very small too, but I would only use it for access to water toys. 6V92 @ 550 hp engines claimed to cruise at 18knots will probably be thirsty?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Some 48 CPMY operators I have chatted with are grateful for the draft as it helps to counter the wind profile. Small cockpit but what a great boat!! Nice aft deck and convenient 'raised bridge' without the full climb to a flying bridge. Those 6V92s are good motors, aren't all of the 92-series motors a little on the thirsty side? They sure look nice to me.

Those 6v92's rated at 550 are going to be short lived. My dad had a pair in a 43 Tiara open. They ran well, but he sold her just shy of 1500hrs after hearing some pretty bad stories related to their longevity, FWIW.

The 48 looks like a nice boat, though. There is a similar 52CMY just down the dock from us and the owners love it.

Thanks for the input. We'll see how it goes.

Do not count on 18 kt. That is optomistic. The 52 MY with the 8V92s would do 20 kt @ 2200 @ 77 GPH. That was on a new light boat with no enclosure or any weight. Not one of my favorites and it had a few quirks.
