  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
46' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1974 - 1981)
Never ran the midship or the saddle tanks dry. I have controls under the cockpit deck to control what tank the port and starboard engines pull from AND return to.

Question is, can I control the fuel supply to the factory 15kw onan? Best I can tell from the drawings and what I can see in the ER the lines are plumbed to the mid ship tank with nothing but a supply shut off.

Am I overlooking something?

chad it has been a while but i remember the same thing that you are saying, genset pulls from the mid tank only. jack had a 46 and dave still does, maybe they will chime in here.

That's correct. The generator is supplied by the midship centerline tank only. You can transfer fuel from either or both cockpit tanks by using the return selector valve if needed. The pickup tube for the generator is mounted slightly higher than that for the engine supply. If the generator shuts down then the tank is getting low and the engine supply needs to be switched to the cockpit tanks. I have 2 generators on my 65 and they are both plumbed to one tank each, same as the 46.

My centerline tank is disconnected for some odd reason. The guy I bought it from said it has been that way since he has owned it for the last 10 years. My generator runs off of the port aft tank on my 46C and I have not looked yet as to how it is hooked up but I can this weekend and take pictures if you need me to.

That is not a factory setup. I'd suspect the center tank has a leak. Can't imagine why else you would change the generator pick up. That only leaves you 400gls total fuel. Seems too light for me. I like the way the boat rides with the aft tanks full and running the center tank first.

Thanks guys. That's what it looked like I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

I need to get the centerline tank hooked up. 400 Gallons makes it a short fishing trip. Any idea what is involved in pulling that tank out and having it tested?
