  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Does anyone have a 43 DCMY on the hard at this time. If so and if possible I would like to know the prop clearance distance to the bottom of the hull. I would also want to know the diamter of the installed prop. Measurement should be parallel to the face of the prop (perpendicular to the shaft). I am considering larger props and would like to calculate a safe max diameter.

How much larger are you looking at going? I went 1 inch bigger on my 43 DCFB. Bigger is better. I think you can go 3 inches. But I'm not sure at this moment without checking again.

I won't come out for a cleaning for another month, but I can tell you I run 24x26 inch wheels. Sugested here, just a little too much wheel to run hard but at my cruise speed 7-8kts. seems to be the ticket. I have 310 J & T's 6-71's Bill

I think I'm running 25 X 24 German ZF wheels. I need to find my paper work. I can't remember for sure. In going to this wheel we talked about way to many wheels and its been 2 years. I really like them. The boat has very little squat. As you power on, the boat just rises out of the water. 21mph. WOT.

When I was out for inspection in February I unfortunately didn't take the measurement as I had other things on my mind. I currently run 24X27 4 blade. My 340 hp 903s will make just shy of 21 knots at 2800 RPM. I want to over prop (yes I know) to make ~ 8-10 knots @800-1000 RPM as I am only interested in economy. My calculations show that I should still be able to make 16-17 knots @1600RPM, more than enough for me. I want to use the largest diameter possible and still maintain adequate hull clearance. I think 2" would be plenty. If I can get a 30" wheel on there, good. 33 or 34 (doubtful), even better.

General rule of thumb is to safely allow a distance equal to your shaft diameter between the hull and prop.
