  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I haven't checked this one out yet. Owner bought as a fixer upper & wants rid of it. I am going to find out more on this boat. I believe the owner wants $39000.00 or even an offer the boat is here in Ft. Myers & was just moved to a cheaper marina...I was told the boat has many issues ?

Anyone interested ?

Is he giving me $39,000?

Very Funny krush! I agree with YOU.

Paul, Paul, Paul. What are you thinking??????!!!!!!!!

The harsh reality is the boat you mentioned, and the 43 for the same price in Daytona are essentially worthless, simply because it will cost another $200,000 to correctly straighten out either one of these boats. WHY would anyone even THINK of doing that??? Especially when you can buy a nice one for half that investment.

I'm on the same page, but I feel compelled to look at it......How about ten minutes at WOT & we see what's left???????

Paul

I'm in Cape Coral and would consider tying a (running) project 43 to my dock if it was a steal and basically sound hull and mechanically.... underline steal and forget the 40 grand. Since you've done research on them I'd like to hear your thoughts....

43' DC with FB located at Jabins in Annapolis. Has been on the hard for a while but overall she is appears to be a solid boat. Owner is in Texas and will sell cheap. Maybe 20K or so? Going on ebay if not there now it will be soon. Nice package to travel the coast or live aboard cheap. 671N's if memory serves. "Pilot House"

Looks like it's on ebay right now ......http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hatteras-43...cf25999&item=321266014617&pt=Power_Motorboats

If it were in SW Florida I'd take a look, but like real estate cheap boats are location location etc....

I knew the boat in Annapolis a few years back. She's over all probably better than she looks. Port side deck core issue has been there for a while. Engineroom show horrible but I think the engines are OK. She did have a lot of good stuff done to her maybe 15 years ago. Nothing much since. Ebay listing says he paid $102,500 for her when he bought her which is about right.

The SW Florida boat has 903 Cummins in it which IMHO is not the desirable power.

Annapolis boat doesn't look too bad. Probably a decent deal at 25K if you want to live on her and fix her up a bit. Not hateful.

And GMs are what to have. I would not want one with V8 Cummins either, as much as I like modern Cummins engines, the older ones are a horror to get parts for.

I repowered a 903 boat over the summer and have customers with them still running all over the place. If they are maintained properly they are just about bullet proof. parts may be a bit tough to find and may be a bit pricey but they run long and strong.

FWIW the one we repowered had a bad engine from poor maintenance or would be running today.

Is there something wrong with me? I have a 1972 43 dcmy and I paid quite a bit more for it. Whats wrong with this one that its worth so little?

I have no knowledge of either of these boats but like most older Hatts, if the engines are tired and she needs paint that about zeros the price. Why spend a fortune fixing and updating one when you could buy a decent on for far less. I know of a 58C that has a bad engine that has to come out of the boat. Other engine is tired and interior needs updating. The boat is worth nothing. It will cost more to get those 16V92's out of the boat and running engines back in then the boat is worth. I looked at a pristine 58C. Paint was perfect, interior was spotless, all new soft goods, new heads, teak and holly flooring etc. Tons of upgrades throughout. Starboard engine was very tired and the bottom was blistered. The blisters normally wouldn't be an issue but the paint build up was heavy and needed to be taken down. Once you do that then you need to deal with the bottom. I made an offer based on the cost to repair and the owner said no. That boat sold 2 years later for 3K more than my offer. Buyers are well aware of what it cost to fix these boats. If it doesn't add up they look elsewhere.

Cost of refit is higher than ever. There are very few buyers for anything that even might be considered a "project". There is little or no financing for a 1976 boat. Any boat being sold AS IS on land without hearing the machinery running will severely limit the number of buyers and the selling price.

IMHO the nicest 43 DC on the planet in today's market might be worth $75 to $80K but only to the right buyer. That $25K 43 DC in Annapolis could be a really nice boat but it's conceivable that you could spend $150K on her to get her there. If you can do some of it yourself, then maybe less $. It all boils down to what kind of boat you want to own. A really nice one at a depressed market price, or this one for $25K - either could be a decent value depending upon the buyer's desires and capability.
