43' Conv. Cockpit Door

Does anyone know where I can get a used/reconditioned cockpit door for my 1979 43' Convertible? Mine needs repairing and I'd like either to replace it or put in a temp. door until I can repair mine or find an affordable replacement.

Sounds familiar. I have the same boat (79 43C) and had the same problem. I pulled the door when I put her away for the winter. I cut a temporary "door" out of 3/4" plywood and put it in place with a couple screws. Mine was starting to rot under the window on the exterior side and had a big gouge from the hook/standoff in the middle of the outside. The inside teak veneer was pretty rough too.

I applied a new teak veneer to the inside, pulled the window (the interior trim comes off pretty easily) and rebedded it, then put thickened West Systems in the exterior and faired it off. A couple coats of paint on the outside and a couple coats of varnish on the inside, and its held up pretty well now for 3 or 4 years.

That said, if you find a source for a new one, ask them if they have two.

I think he's referring to the transom door? Might try calling Slane or some of the bigger refit yards to see if they have something laying around. May also be able to tell you what other models use the same door. Unless it's really bad, fixing is probably the best option.
