- Hatteras Model
- 41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Hi gents: I'm having a gas '66 41' Hatteras convertible surveyed and sea trialed next Wednesday-Thursday. I have a good surveyor (used him before); but, since I believe all boats have their individual peculiarities/weaknesses -even Hatteras', I am looking for advice from members on what to look out for on this particular Hatteras model.
She has 330hp Chryslers (new in 1995), no hour meters, heads redone in 2003(biofuel problems), Borg Warner (2.3 or .7 gears) and a 4KW genset. I am having the engines and gen set compression tested during the survey. The oil in the engines and genset is new. The fuel tanks have recently been replaced by aluminum tanks (biofuel problems). The water and I believe the holding tank are fiberglass. The stuffing boxes are the old fashioned type. The galley is all electric including a 110v only fridge (not good for cruising and staying on the hook). The heads are Groco electric w/provision for hand pumping. There are two a/c + heat exchanger units aboard. The electronics are ancient....a Furuno loran and a Northstar chartplotter/GPS. There is a thru hull transducer but I couldn't find a depthsounder....will check Wednesday. The hull seems in excellent shape and the so does the running gear...port cutlass bearing may be a bit worn. She has a rope only verticle windless w/o a bow sprit to store it or hoist it. Fiberglass top on flybridge and nearly new canvas and Eisenglass. Cushions and upholstery in good shape as well, so is the interior.
Any insights would be appreciated since, although a classy lady, she is 42 yrs old......Celt
