  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
38' DOUBLE CABIN (1967 - 1971)
I've heard from a couple of people here on the forum and other places as well, that scratched Eisenglas can benefit from a buffing with 3M Finesse it. Looking on the 3M site is daunting, since there are a variety of products in the Finesse It family. Can anyone give me the correct part number so I can purchase it and give it a try please? Also, I have heard a foam pad is best from some while others like a lambs wool pad. What are your opinions?
Eric

It works fine for that purpose; I use it all time. Any soft rag - old Tshirt's good.

I use Finesse it II for polishing my Imron annually. This is what the Hatteras tech rep recommended when we bought the boat and boy wa hes right. Great stuff.:)

Finesse It II to rub out and a "special sauce" polymer to protect it. 2X a season. Never looked better. Just never wash with soap!

Brian, do you put a polymer on Eisenglass?

I have been a big proponent of Finnesse-It II and Rejex for my painted surfaces, once a year to 18 months works great for us. If I was going to try it on eisenglass, I'd get a small bottle of each and do a small unimportant section first. If it doesn't work so swell you can use the rest on strategic painted surfaces.

I find the Finesse It 2 takes most swirls out. If some still persist, I use a little heavier grit for the rub out. Then seal with the polymer. Sorry- NOT ON EISEN, ONLY ON PLEXI.

There is a scratch remover made by '210' specifically for clear vinyl. It works well, but takes some effort. The 210 cleaner also does a good job, both on vinyl as well as EZ2CY (acrylic).

I have EZ2CY on our aft deck and the 210 products work very well when I make the effort. Not having eisenglass experience, I hesitate to say anything about it. I do have an entire enclosure for the flying bridge stashed under the console we which we have never used that I should pull out and freshen up someday, so am a little curious as to how this exercise works out. With the weather being so cold, maybe having it up would keep the boat warmer by shielding wind and during the day the solarium effect we get on the aft deck.

You will not likely be able to get it to fit with the cold weather as those materials shrink in the cold. You might be able to hang it first and then try to zip it up during the warmest part of the day. I have snaps at the bottom of my enclosure doorway that I tried to snap this weekend and they were about a half inch too short. That was with the temps in the 50's and 30mph wind gusts.

Thanks for the tip DeeRow, maybe I'll them in from the cold for a few days if I decide to try this project. It's the kind of thing I might have barreled right into without thinking that though. Biggest task might be figuring out what goes where...
