  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
Last winter, I forgot to turn on the heaters in the engine compartment. Hard sub-0 freeze. I have most parts fixed. Now to tackle the original 1972 fiberglass freshwater tank that is located between the stringers at midship.

Has anyone tackled a repair/replacement of this tank? Looks like part of tank is structural support for stairs down to head and v-berth. Thoughts??

Where's the leak?

Top and accessible or down low and hidden?

AFAIK the bulkhead and deck supports the stairs. The tank is tabbed between the stringers and probably could be pulled out towards the stern. It ony protrudes a couple of feet past the bulkhead at most. But being it's fiberglass, my preference would be to repair it if possible.

I have looked for the leak. Cannot find it. Fill the tank in the morning, and the next morning it is empty. I have a small bilge pump in the bow. It must be picking up the water.

WAS wondering if you could buy a plastic tank and replace the original?

What about the pickup?

Is it on top or low on the tank?

Pick up is on the top

Siphoning? Maybe a cracked line is the problem.

Pull the fill, vent and pickup. Cap 2 and put 4 psi of air in the 3rd.

For 75 bucks you can buy a Harbor Freight Inspection camera. It has a 3 foot long wand so you can probably scope the whole tank. That won't fix it for you, but it might keep you from doing it the hard way.
