34 hatteras repower

hi, i,m looking for help i have a 1963 34 sport cruiser gas power 440's.we have the engines and generator out and are going to repower to diesel and paint or replace about everything else.for power we are looking at cummins 370b remans w/zf220a 1.53:1 down angle transmissions .we would like to hear from anyone who has gone before us,will they fit under the existing floor level what kind of cruise speed can i get and are they a good power choice for this hull. Talk with Jim Rosenthal. He just did a similar repower in his Hat. I did the same in mine but its a 32fter, not a 34. There are several others as well on this forum who did the repower and who will chime in....I'm sure of it!

I think that you may have a height issue with the 370's. I've seen a 63' SC repowered with 330's and they were very tight. There had to be some floor modifications.

I have done a 34C with 330b's zf 220A don't think you realy need 370s. I get 23kt cruise and 28 kt top end. Check out my web page for pictures and some more Info it also has my email.

Ray,
remember that floor was raised already to fit the motors in. They may fit. I think your best bet is a pair of Yanmars. small and compact with a lot of power.
