  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
Replacing a spotlight (32V) with a more modern 12V not avail in 32V. Have 2 small transformers that convert 32V to 12V for electronics (3 amp and 5 amp) but not enough to power the spotlight. Can't find a larger transformer for the new spotlight. Does anyone know of any sources? 10-12 AMP minimum.

Scott,

I have two that I'm using on our boat which are 32v to 12v @20 amp max. I'll post the manufacture / source this afternoon when I return.

Try Astron Corp. for converter at 949 458 7277 fax 949 458 0826 They have about any voltage you need.

Last time I was over there, Jarrett Bay Surplus had a take-out NewMar 32-12-50amp for $250. I have a couple of NewMars on my boat that run the various radios, the hailer, the satellite dish system and a few sundry other things. Nice steady power supply. Bought the second one from Jarrett Bay, as a matter of fact, and have it up on the flying bridge.

JC Whitney has sealed solid state DC-DC converters in like 10 and 25 amp capacities that step down 32V to 12V. They do give off some warmth so they need to be mounted where air can circulate. Not too expensive as I recall. I have one running a 12V head motor off the 32V original wiring so it can handle a good load.

Get the Newmar. It is made for marine applications and it only draws .5ma when idle. Anything else is second rate.
